Drew Petrie, Michael Firrito and Carn the Kids' Ambassador Jack Ziebell encouraged the kids to try their hand at a variety of kicking, handballing and running drills.

Afterwards the kids and their carers were taken for a 'inner sanctum' tour around the North training facilities – including the back of house gym, ice baths and locker rooms.

All the kids were excited to learn more about what it feels like to be a footballer and have a chat to the boys face-to-face.

Wednesday's clinic is another example of LeasePlan's Carn the Kids initiatives that give 'fun days out' to kids who might otherwise not have the opportunity.

LeasePlan and Carn the Kids have been in partnership with North Melbourne since 2009, and in 2012 there will be more 'fun days out' at four North Melbourne home matches; Round 7 V Western Bulldogs, Round 15 V West Coast, Round 17 V Carlton and Round 18 V Melbourne.

The Victory were going through their final preparations ahead of Sunday afternoon's clash with Gold Coast United at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne.  The game is also a Carn the Kids MEGA Match with a group of 380 special kids and their carers in VIP seats as guests of LeasePlan Carn the Kids program.

Mark and Ruby will even get to run on to the field with the Victory team on Sunday as the lucky Carn the Kids mascots for the game.  To help them prepare, the Victory players presented them both with their own special Victory jerseys with Kewell's number 22 on the back and they got a priceless photo with the Victory stars.
 
Mark first got involved with Carn the Kids through his association with Camp Quality and - as a passionate soccer fan - he jumped at the invitation to be a part of this fun day out and even brought his own Victory soccer ball with him to training!

Carn the Kids aims to give fun days out to kids who may otherwise miss out on the chance to enjoy what others take for granted.  It is a program LeasePlan has run since 2003, taking more than 15,000 kids and carers to a host of 'fun days out' around the country. and Melbourne Victory has been a partner to LeasePlan and Carn the Kids since the 2008/09 season.

The children and carers are invited through Carn the Kids agency partners, including The CREATE Foundation, The Royal Children’s Hospital, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Camp Quality, and MacKillop Family Services.

Effective 10 May 2011, all new vehicle leases (where the quotation was signed after 7.30pm 10/5/2011) will be subject to a new method of FBT calculation that will be phased in over four years. The final result will be that the statutory FBT rate for all salary packaged vehicles will be 20%, regardless of how many kilometres the car travels.

Below is a chart that shows the rates during the phase in period.




Existing vehicle leases (prior to 10 May 2011) will retain old FBT rates provided no changes are made to the lease or novation agreement.  Changes to the lease would include:
- Re-financing a car
- Extending the lease
- Altering the duration of the lease 

The previous FBT rules and calculations will continue to apply to existing vehicles, provided none of the above changes occur during the remaining term of the lease. Where a change happens the vehicle lease will be treated as a ‘new contract’ and are therefore subject to the new FBT rates from the beginning of the next FBT year.

It should be noted any attempt by an employee or employer to change a lease structure or its duration with the intent to take advantage of the new rate may come under scrutiny by the ATO under anti-avoidance measures and tax penalties could be applied.

Employees entering into a new lease from 11 May 2011 are subject to the new rates above.

Changes to your employment where the lease is re-novated to a new employer will trigger the new FBT rates to be applied from the date the lease is transferred to the new employer.  In this situation The FBT Base Value used in calculating the FBT liability will be adjusted down to the market value of the vehicle at the time of the transfer.

Please be aware of the new FBT arrangements when it comes to acquiring your next novated lease, or when making changes to your current arrangement.
